We’re excited to share that BackBox 8.0 was featured in the June 30, 2025, Packet Pushers Network Break podcast. The following are some of the new capabilities that hosts Drew Conry-Murray and Johna Till Johnson shared with listeners.

Support for Cisco Meraki. BackBox is tackling the challenge of ensuring compliance before deploying cloud-managed/SASE devices at scale. Drew highlighted capabilities such as scheduling device imports into staging for compliance validation before production deployment, validating Meraki configurations against industry policies or your own custom policies, and identifying orphaned devices to ensure inventory accuracy.

Device Lifecycle Governance. Drew explained that BackBox 8.0 also includes new states for tracking device life cycles, including a staging state, an active state, an ignored state, and an orphaned state. This facilitates automation, compliance checks, and license allocation for seamless tracking and management from initial onboarding to maintenance to End-of-Life.

CVE Workarounds. Earlier in the podcast, during the weekly Red Alert segment on CVEs, Johna reported that just the week prior, 790 CVEs had been created, 1,505 were edited, 302 were rated critical with CVSS scores of 9 or higher, and 24 scored 10 out of 10.

In that context, the hosts noted that BackBox’s new CVE Workaround Insights feature is good news as it takes vulnerability remediation to another level, and they encouraged listeners to consider using it.

They explained that the CVE Workaround Insights feature helps network and security teams quickly identify CVEs in their environments that have workarounds, such as device configuration changes. So, suppose a patch or software upgrade isn’t available or currently isn’t feasible for your work process, the network and security teams can opt to implement a workaround and even use automation to mitigate the issue. This feature extends the vulnerability intelligence capabilities already available in the BackBox platform, which automatically prioritizes vulnerabilities for patching and can also remediate automatically.

You can listen to the full podcast here. The BackBox segment starts at minute 26.
